The Complete Elvis Presley : List of all Follow That Dream CD and Book Releases

FTD (Follow That Dream), Sony BMG's Official Elvis Presley Collectors label was established in 1999 to serve the dedicated Elvis collector and to complement the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large.

There are the original Collectors CD's with CDs ranging from soundboard recorded concerts (Recorded from the mixing desk in mono) to full RCA professionally recorded concerts in stereo and some great alternate take CDs - Such as The Jungle Room Sessions and Memphis Sessions etc, later FTD introduced the Elvis Classic Album Series where they release the original Elvis albums in deluxe 7" size packaging with a booklet and a usually a second CD of out takes from the same recording sessions that produced the album. There is also the Elvis : Movie Soundtrack Series usually released as a single CD but again in deluxe 7" packaging with booklet, very much a part of the Classic Albums.

FTD : The Beginning

The songs and out takes being released today were in the vaults but not considered of any interest to anyone for many years. In the 90's BMG started releasing The Essential Elvis series, starting with The Essential Elvis : The First Movies, then Stereo '57 : Essential Elvis 2, Hit's Like Never Before : Essential Elvis 3, A Hundred Years From Now : Essential Elvis 4, Rhythm & Country : Essential Elvis 5 and Such A Night : Essential Elvis 6.

Starting in 1996 people were putting out bootleg soundboard concerts that were selling very well. Some of these were stolen but many, lots, where given to new musicians to get an idea of an Elvis concert, some of the sound engineers gave copies to friends, not all is known how they got out, but there are a large number of the 1000 or so concerts Elvis did in the 70s on soundboard in private hands - and also in FTDs hands.

Some high ranking RCA and BMG people are aledged to have sold soundboards to people who then bootlegged them, howver we can't and certainly won't be naming anyone! We do know one well known person was actually aloud for some time to borrow tapes for a weekend, copy them and then release as a bootleg.

After seeing the sales of bootlegs, Ernst Jorgensen convinced BMG [the owner at the time before Sony came into it] to let him start a collector's label, this was in 1999. And they named it Follow That Dream [FTD].

** FTD consider the two CD only re-releases as not new releases as they were originally released with a book.

** FTD are not counting the Vinyl releases, considering them the same as the CD releases with the same titles, although we think at the very least the 'Good Times - The Out Takes' is a different title.

So anyway, we have followed this formula with our list, not allocating a release number for the vinyl releases and CD only re-releases originally released as part of a book release. (Thanks to Ken Jensen for his input).
