The Complete Elvis Presley : List of all Follow That Dream 5" Collectors CDs

FTD (Follow That Dream), Sony BMG's Official Elvis Presley Collectors label was established in 1999 to serve the dedicated Elvis collector and to complement the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large.

There are the original Collectors CD's with CDs ranging from soundboard recorded concerts (Recorded from the mixing desk in mono) to full RCA professionally recorded concerts in stereo and some great alternate take CDs - Such as The Jungle Room Sessions and Memphis Sessions etc, later FTD introduced the Elvis Classic Album Series where they release the original Elvis albums in deluxe 7" size packaging with a booklet and a usually a second CD of out takes from the same period as the recordings on the album. There is also the Movie Soundtrack Series usually released as a single CD but again in deluxe 7" packaging with booklet.

Soundboard Recorded Concerts

A soundboard recording is the tape recording from the concert mixing desk. Most of Elvis' concerts were recorded this way. The tapes were often used to give new band members an idea of previous shows. The concert was recorded at the mixing desk onto cassette tape, usually in mono. While they are in mono and were never intended for release, this is irrelevant to a large degree if the recording is good. And also if Elvis' performance is good. There are some very good soundboards, - a great example is the 1974 concert included with the excellent book, Fashion For A King - and many that are not as good, these are released for collectors that are happy to have as many shows as they can. Generally the later the year the better the sound quality, but the closer to ’77 the worse Elvis' performance is likely to be. We have put the best soundboards in a sub-section. It is well worth trying one to see how you like it. Everyone is different so it is hard to say who will like what. There are also several professional RCA recorded concerts in the stereo section.

** FTD consider the two CD only re-releases as not new releases as they were originally released with a book.

** FTD are not counting the Vinyl releases, considering them the same as the CD releases with the same titles, although we think at the very least the 'Good Times - The Out Takes' is a different title.

So anyway, we have followed this formula with our list, not allocating a release number for the vinyl releases and CD only re-releases originally released as part of a book release. (Thanks to Ken Jensen for his input).
