The Complete Elvis Presley : List of all Follow That Dream 5" CDs with Alternate Takes

Listen to Elvis in the studio recording his songs. Unlike most of today's artists Elvis recorded take after take until he reached what he considered to be the performance he wanted released. Often then produces like Felton Jarvis would add over dubs, mostly for the good, sometimes not, although many fans would disagree. Suspicious Minds is one example where they add the false fade to emulate Elvis' stage performance of the song. Released without this on the Memphis Record CD [Released in 1990] it was most interesting to hear but fan demand saw subsequent releases return to the original released format which was the right move.

However in the alternate takes you hear Elvis as he was in the studio, no over dubs, 'live' as it were. There are still many 5 inch size alternate takes CDs, slowly being deleted [As the Classic album series releases are providing the out-takes now. Many outtakes most are truly essential. To name some, The Jungle Room Sessions, I Sing All Kinds, Stage Rehearsal, So High and Our Memories Of Elvis : and many more ...

What to buy? Where to start? What is a good FTD release?

FTD

FTD (Follow That Dream), Sony BMG's Official Elvis Presley Collectors label was established in 1999 to serve the dedicated Elvis collector and to complement the commercial and artistic level of RCA's retail release schedule by issuing repertoire that is considered of interest to serious Elvis fans and collectors, material that is generally not part of mainstream RCA label releases to the public at large.

There are the original Collectors CD's with CDs ranging from soundboard recorded concerts (Recorded from the mixing desk in mono) to full RCA professionally recorded concerts in stereo and some great alternate take CDs - Such as The Jungle Room Sessions and Memphis Sessions etc, later FTD introduced the Elvis Classic Album Series where they release the original Elvis albums in deluxe 7" size packaging with a booklet and a usually a second CD of out takes from the same period as the recordings on the album. There is also the Movie Soundtrack Series usually released as a single CD but again in deluxe 7" packaging with booklet.

** FTD consider the two CD only re-releases as not new releases as they were originally released with a book.

** FTD are not counting the Vinyl releases, considering them the same as the CD releases with the same titles, although we think at the very least the 'Good Times - The Out Takes' is a different title.

So anyway, we have followed this formula with our list, not allocating a release number for the vinyl releases and CD only re-releases originally released as part of a book release. (Thanks to Ken Jensen for his input).
